Church in the World
The Cathedral of Saint Andrew, its priests and people have the intention of following the Second Vatican Council and its document related to how the Church works with the world in which it lives, Gaudium et Spes.
Gaudium et Spes says, “the council yearns to explain to everyone how it conceives of the presence and activity of the Church in the world of today.” The Cathedral of Saint Andrew exists in the vibrant city of Grand Rapids, and is the mother Church of Catholics in all of West Michigan. As Catholics we are called to witness to the love of Jesus in all the places where we gather; to all the people whom we meet. Because the priest ministers of the Cathedral are Paulists, we embrace their charisms of evangelization, ecumenical and inter-religious awareness and reconciliation in our outreach to the neighborhoods in which we live and move.
